5 Days. 4 Colleagues. 1 Objective.

Last Monday an elite team of MAG-O developers began a Delivery Sprint, a modern product development technique which aims to deliver a goal within an agreed time-frame. Our team’s time-frame was a week…

The challenge was to deliver a new user interface for the MAG user journey, incorporating a new visual identity whilst maintaining feature parity with the current customer journey so not to impact upon conversion.

To do this, we would need to create a new .Net Core project with new front-end code which was both launch-worthy and considerate of best practice throughout. To enable us to release future updates to the new platform at speed, we also had to create a new continuous integration pipeline.

No biggie…

The team began by breaking the user interface down into its component parts and isolating all the bits that we would need to rebuild. Basically, everything a customer sees on our sites, from the date-selectors to the product information itself.

Though there was available support from Engineering Leads and Product Owners throughout the process, one of the key success factor in the Sprint was that the team was fully empowered to make any decisions within the room, which enabled us to stay fully aware of and remove any blockers quickly.

Inside the room felt a little mad at times, but all in all the Sprint was incredibly collaborative and created a real sense of team-ness between four extremely skilled people who had previously worked together only minimally.

On the final day, after a week full of an immense amount of pizza, cookies and energy drinks, the team emerged to deliver a showcase to key business stakeholders. I’m proud to say we were victorious! All elements of the original goals were delivered upon and the presentation was well received!

MAG-O’s first Delivery Sprint has been an extremely interesting and valuable experience for us as a development team.
